Kenya Red Cross says 8,500 Ethiopians seeking asylum

The Kenya Red Cross said the number of people coming to the country seeking asylum has continued to increase after Ethiopian military killed 13 and injured dozens of people last Saturday in Moyale, a town bordering the two countries.

The Kenya Red Cross announced in a press release that 8,500 people have arrived at Marsabit, Moyale on the Kenyan side of the border seeking help and asylum. It said the number of people crossing the border could increase in the coming days.

The Red Cross said the asylum seekers include pregnant women, lactating mothers and the physically impaired.

Ethiopia on wednesday said 39,825 people have crossed into Kenya following the weekend killings.
