“EU Statement on Ethiopia’s martial law is a shame,” Ana Gomes Says

Ana Gomes, a Portuguese member of the European Parliament say the recent statement put out by the European Union regarding the state of emergency in Ethiopia was a “shame.”

She called on the Parliament to bring the issue with the High Representative for Human Rights and take a position that respects the values Europe holds for human rights and democracy.

Gomes says European Union Statement on Ethiopia was a “shame compared to the American’s”

Gomes is a very known advocate at the European Union for the struggle by Ethiopians against tyranny and brutal repression in their country.

Recent statement by Catherine Ray, Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, which says the state of emergency “should be as limited in time as possible” has angered Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia who are calling for the martial law to be scraped and rule of law prevails.
