Ethiopia hit with shortage of fuel

ESAT News (July 28, 2017)

Several towns in Ethiopia have reportedly been hit with shortages of fuel hampering transportation and provisions of staple supplies to the people.

As a result of the fuel shortages prices of food, crops and merchandise have skyrocketed.

Sources say long queues have been seen at gas stations in Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar, Dessie, Debre Tabor, Debre Berhan and Debre markos.

The absence of Kerosene, the main fuel for cooking, has also hit towns in Ethiopia.

Minister of Mines and Natural Gas, Motuma Mekasa admits the shortages but blames lack of efficiency at the port of Djibouti.

The landlocked country spends about 2 Billion dollars for importing fuel and 40% of the gas is imported from Sudan.
