Reports reaching from Woldia show that tensions remained high in the town that has seen the killing of 13 people while celebrating the annual Epiphany celebrations this weekend.

The weekly Tuesday market in the town was cancelled to mourn the deceased.

In the nearby Hara town residents set a truck on fire and according to a report by the BBN, elders have taken control of the administration of the town. The local police have been made to retreat to the outskirts of the town.

Some residents told the BBN that they were protesting the killing of innocent people in Woldia over the weekend.

They have also said job and business opportunities were all given to people from Tigray and they have been marginalized by the regime.
