Ethiopia: Soldiers disappear along border with Kenya

ESAT News (November 20, 2017)

Initial reports reaching ESAT say unknown number of soldiers with the 10th division of the Ethiopian regime’s army disappeared Monday along the country’s border with Kenya.

A search is underway after the soldiers lost radio communication with their base in Southern Ethiopia, according to ESAT sources. A search in Borena and Yabello towns along the Southern border has ended in futility.

The soldiers are reportedly fully armed and their number is not known.

Desertion in the Ethiopian army has increased in recent years with soldiers expressing dismay at corruption, nepotism and ethnic marginalization within the army. Tigrayan officers and generals represent 90% of the top brass creating resentment among other members of the force who are ethnic majority.
