Ethiopia: Army accused of killing three, injuring nineteen in Borena

The Borena Zonal administration said in a letter to the prime minister and other government offices that regime’s army members had shot and killed three in a locality called Sodo in Dire district, while nineteen other were wounded.

The letter published by several media outlets say the regime’s army had carried out the killings last month when locals approached suspicious and unusual heavy duty trucks and demand them inspected for possible contraband trade. Members of the army, who were accompanying the trucks, lured the locals saying they could join them in searching the trucks. The army then opened fire at the unsuspecting locals.

The letter signed by the Borena Zone administrator, Liben Harero Huka, says the victims include elders, women and children under the age of ten.

The local administrator demanded an investigation and the perpetrators be brought to justice. The letter says those who perpetrated the killings should be handed over to the local administration to face justice.
