Tensions remain high in Bahir Dar after a bomb exploded on Saturday injuring two people. Authorities say they have arrested the suspects. A woman was seriously injured.
The explosion came amid growing tensions after small businesses and vendors called a strike last week opposing a new tax hike by the government. Authorities responded with arresting over 200 businessmen as of Monday. Authorities have also impounded over a 100 Bajajs that took part in the strikes.
The explosion in the capital of the Amhara region took place about 9 p.m. Saturday. No party claimed responsibility.
The regime has deployed massive security in Bahir Dar, a city that was the scene of deadly anti-government protests last summer in which at least 50 protesters were killed in one day.
