ESAT News (May 25, 2017)
The Ethiopian regime has completed preparations to handover disputed land to the Sudan despite objections on the part of the Ethiopian farmers who believe the land is historically theirs, according to ESAT’s sources.
A joint military has been deployed in the border area to quash any resistance by the Ethiopian farmers, who believe their own government is committing treason. The farmers accused that the ruling TPLF regime in Ethiopia of allying with the leaders of Sudan, who keep longstanding and strong ties. They say the regime is committing an act of revenge against them because they don’t support its policies that do not stand for the interests of Ethiopians.
The sources also say Ethiopian regime security is prepared to crush any resistance by the Ethiopian farmers under the pretext of the state of emergency declared in October 2016 after two years of deadly protests that saw the killing of hundreds in the hands of regime security forces.
According to reports by Sudanese media, Governor of Gedaref state, Mirghani Salih Saed Ahmed, announced that all agricultural land on the border strip, which is being cultivated by Ethiopian farmers in Al Fashqa locality will be returned to Sudanese farmers.
Observers say the decision by the two sides to transfer Ethiopian land to Sudan will have grave ramifications on the future of the people on both sides of the border.
