Ethiopia: Church set ablaze in Gondar

ESAT News (April 6, 2017)

Reports reaching from north Gondar say a church was set ablaze by regime soldiers in Denbia. The report also said the perpetrators had blamed soldiers of Patriotic Ginbot 7, an armed group opposing the regime, in what sources say was an attempt to put the fighters at loggerheads with the public.

The burning of the church follows another development early this week when a Chinese construction headquarter came under attack forcing the contractor and its employees to relocate. Three people were killed and 11 others wounded in that attack.

Sporadic gunshots could be heard in Serava and the regime has moved its army to the area for reinforcement, according to sources.

Patriotic Ginbot 7 meanwhile claimed responsibility for a bomb attack at the residence of Colonel Atena Teferi, who is member of the ruling party. PG7 says the colonel is responsible for the killing of hundreds of youth during the anti-government protests last summer in the Amhara region.

Security forces have reportedly arrested several people following the two incidents.
