ESAT News (March 31, 2017)

Mamushet Amare, former president of the All Amhara People’s Organization has been detained, according to ESAT’s sources.

The sources said Mr. Amare was arrested under the orders of the command post that is overseeing the martial law, which was extended by another four months yesterday.

Mamushet Amare was detained with his brother Gizachew Amare. The sources said the former president of AAPO was being treated for an ailment when he was arrested with Gizachew, who went to visit his brother.

Meanwhile, 12 members of the Blue Party in Arbaminch were charged with terrorism. They were accused of having links to patriotic Ginbot 7, an armed group opposing the tyrannical regime.

Five of the defendants say they will not defend a cooked up charge brought against them.

The Ethiopian regime widely accused of filing bogus charges of terrorism to silence its critics, opposition party members as well as journalists.
