Demolition of houses continues in Addis

ESAT News (February 23, 2017)

Hundreds of houses are being demolished in the capital Addis Ababa in areas claimed by both the city administration and the Oromo regional state.

Over three hundred houses have already been demolished by the regional police despite complaint by residents to the city administration, who said they have paid taxes to the city for over 40 years.

Residents in Nefas Silk district of the capital told ESAT that they were told to pack up and leave in seven days.

Last year authorities demolished hundreds of houses in the capital to make way for real estate development. Two police officers and a local administrator lost their lives in the ensuing confrontation with the residents.
