A Nigerian was arrested hiding over one kilogram of cocaine in his belly at the Addis Bole International Airport, local media reported on Tuesday.
The alleged smuggler, who complained of stomach pain, was taken to the hospital where doctors performed an operation to remove bags of cocaine.
It took doctors three hours to remove the 84 bags of cocaine.
The alleged smuggler boarded the plane in Brazil and was transiting through Addis when he was caught. Police said their investigations determined that there is a cartel in Addis Ababa that receive the drug.
A gram of cocaine costs about 200 dollars.
