The Solidarity Movement for a New Ethiopia (SMNE) and Ethiopians in the U.S. have organized a 5 km run in Washington, DC on Saturday November 26, 2016.

Organizers said the 5 km run in the nation’s capital is aimed at highlighting the plight of Ethiopians at home under a dictatorship as well as promoting justice in the country.

Black tees will be available for runners to wear in remembrance of those Ethiopians who have lost their lives in the uprising against the brutal rule, according to organizers.

The run will also be a forum for social networking and fun for people from diverse religions and political views, said one of the organizers, Tesfa Mekonnen.

Olympic athletes Girma Tola, Berhanu Alemu as well as other international athletes will take part in the weekend run. Organizers said everyone, regardless of race and nationality is invited to take part in the 5 km run.
