Regime forces detained 40 people in Dabat, north Gonder following protest by residents of the town over an electric transformer that the authorities have removed and tried to relocate to Tigray.

Tensions remained high after residents repossessed the transformer and burnt down the heavy duty truck that was carrying the transformer, which provided electricity to the town for over 25 years.

The residents of the town believed the authorities were trying to take the electric transformer to Mekele, the hometown of the minority regime in Ethiopia.

Schools and offices remained closed for the second week, while there has been a visible increase in the number of security forces in the town.
