Fate of Ethiopian migrants dumped at Kenya-Tanzania border still blurry

ESAT News (April 21, 2016)

The fate of 74 Ethiopian migrants dropped by Tanzania at the Kenya border was still unclear as the two countries got into a diplomatic row. Tanzania dumped the Ethiopians at the border with Kenya after serving their time for illegal entry.

Tanzania says the immigrants entered the country through its border with Kenya and dropped the migrants at the border, igniting a diplomatic outrage by the Kenyans who said the migrants should have been taken to their home country.

Kenyan immigration officers at the border condemned the act and threatened to send migrants back to Tanzania, according to a report by news 24.

The officers said Kenya would not take over Tanzania’s burden under international law, news 24 said quoting Standard.

There is no official statement from Ethiopian government on the issue and considering past experiences, it does not come to the rescue of its citizens stranded in other countries.
