Merara Gudina prevented from leaving Ethiopia at the airport

A prominent opposition politician and chairman of the Oromo Federalist Congress, Dr. Merara Gudina was prevented from leaving for the US for an Ethiopian high profile political conference that is due to be held in the weekend in Washington, DC.

Dr. Merara told ESAT on the phone that he went to the airport on Wednesday to board his plane to the US only to be told by immigration officials that the electronic passport scanner would not read his passport.

He said it was safe to assume that the regime was deliberately stopping him from attending the political conference organized by Vision Ethiopia where a number of scholars and politicians were scheduled to speak.
