Cholera kills 30 in one district alone, 94 hospitalized

ESAT News (July 23, 2016)

Cholera killed 30 people in a locality called Meneye in North Shewa, Oromo region since the onset of the outbreak two weeks ago. Ninety four others have been hospitalized, according to sources.

ESAT’s sources in the area say the local health workers have been warned by regime operatives not to reveal the outbreak of the deadly disease to the media.

The sources also said the diseases has spread to neighboring localities.

Authorities closed the local holy water site where believers go to seek cure from the disease.

The spread of the disease seem to slow down in Addis Ababa where at least six people were reported dead this week and 2000 others contracted the bug.

Health professionals say the serious shortage of potable water in the capital and the scarcity of water that is being rationed every few days has posed a serious hurdle in the fight against the disease that’s mainly contracted from infected water supplies.
