Andargachew Tsige will be on the agenda in David Cameron’s upcoming visit to Ethiopia

ESAT News (March 02, 2016)

Reports say Andargachew Tsige, an Ethiopian born British political prisoner held without charge in Ethiopia, would be on the agenda when UK Prime Minister David Cameron visits Ethiopia next month.

Andy, as he is called affectionately by Ethiopians and British alike, was a leader of a popular Ethiopian Opposition group when he was abducted at the Saana Airport in Yemen in June 2014 by the Ethiopian security and intelligence. His arrest followed condemnation by Ethiopians and rights groups.

Reprieve, an organization working against the death penalty, collected 130,000 signatures last month on behalf of Andy’s family and submitted it to the Prime Minister’s office on 10 Downing Street.

Andy, who is held incommunicado, was sentenced to death in 2009 by the Kangaroo courts in Addis Ababa on trumped up charges of terrorism, a charge the despotic regime use against dissents, political opponents and journalists who critique the regime.
