The nine home based Ethiopian opposition political parties that have come together under the motto “Freedom for a Fair Election”, have issued their first call to religious organisations as part of their one month program.
The parties recalled the immense role that religious denominations have played when disasters in the imbalance of nature occurred or during times of administrative problems. The erosion of the moral and ethical values, citizens’ exposure to social and economic problems, and decadence in the love for the country has been observed, they said.
The parties also note that conflict and displacement have forced people to suffering and fear in all four corners of the country, the age old respectful address “In name of the Lord of Law” has lost its grace, prisons are being filled with countless prisoners, the number of people receiving food aid has increased and in general the stability and peace of the country is reaching an alarming stage.
Therefore, the parties asked citizens and all faithful to pray together and individually on Friday prayers and Sabbath for all forces that are standing on two ends of the pole to reconcile, for the culture of tolerance to re-emerge, the suffering of citizens to stop and be filled with hope, for the unity and togetherness of the nation state, and for the love of the nation to blossom.
The nine parties in addition to in-house meetings have also organised a 24 hour opposition demonstration.
