MP filed motion to impeach Somali President over Ethiopia, Eritrea pact

An MP in Somalia has filed a motion with the speaker of the country’s parliament to impeach the president, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, a.k.a. Farmajo.

The Reuters report said the motion filed to impeach the president was over his deal with neighboring Ethiopia and Eritrea.

The three countries have recently agreed to work together for security and economic cooperation as well as use of ports.

“We have filed an impeachment against the president of the federal republic of Somalia,” Abdikarim H. Abdi Buh said in a statement as quoted by Reuters.

The president “secretly signed agreements with other countries including Ethiopia and Eritrea,” according to a copy of the motion seen by Reuters.

The motion also allege that the president has extradited alleged criminals to neighboring countries and violated the laws of the country and regulations of parliament.

According to Somalia’s constitution, 92 MPs have to sign for the motion to be accepted by the speakers and needs two-third vote to pass.
