Ethiopia: Protests flare up in Ambo, vehicles set ablaze

ESAT News (July 28, 2017)

Reports reaching ESAT say two vehicles were set ablaze in Ambo town, west of the capital Addis Ababa, in protests sparked by the new tax assessment.

Ambo has been the scene of deadly protests against the Ethiopian regime, especially during the anti-government protests in 2016.

A vehicle with a government tag and a bus belonging to the ruling party were targeted in today’s attack by protesters.

Businesses across towns in the country were shut down in protest against new tax hikes for the second week. Deder, Alem Gena, Bonga, Ambo, Shebel Berenta and Yirgalem are some of the towns where strikes have been reported today.
