Malawian police say they have arrested 26 Ethiopians for illegal entry into the country. Police, following tip-off, chased a vehicle carrying the Ethiopians and arrested them, according to a report by Nyasa Times of Malawi.
Karonga police deputy spokesperson George Mlewa confirmed to the newspaper that they swooped on the vehicle and arrested the Ethiopians.
According to the report, the Ethiopians who are between the ages of 25-35 looked “distraught” that they were caught. Police is still looking for those who are at large.
Hundreds of Ethiopians get caught every year as they head to South Africa to run away from economic hardships and political persecution.
