Seven members of the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce have reportedly stayed behind in Europe after a 27 member delegation made a working visit in the Romanian capital of Bucharest.
The seven individuals whom sources told local media might have sought asylum in Europe were also reportedly caught by Romanian police at the country’s border.
The Chamber of Commerce have come under strong criticism for allowing non-members to travel abroad in the name of the Chamber and reports indicate privileges to visit foreign countries has been tarnished with nepotism and bribery as some individuals use the opportunity to obtain visas to Europe and America.
It was also reported that a significant amount of the Chamber’s budget has been spent on transportations and per diems for visits to foreign countries.
