Society recognizes Ethiopians with exceptional community service

Ethiopians with exceptional skill, professional excellence and community service were given awards and recognition at an annual gala organized by the Society of Ethiopians Established in the Diaspora (SEED).

SEED’s 25th annual award dinner recognizes individuals in the Diaspora and in Ethiopia who made tremendous contributions to the betterment of the community and professionals whose works have hugely impacted the Ethiopian society.

Among sunday’s honorees were Dr. Ambachew Woreta, a physician who selflessly served Ethiopians in the DC metropolitan area in his profession and in the church he serves.

Legendary singer Mohamoud Ahmed and the undisputed Ethiopian pop star Teddy Afro were also honored on the day.

Lemin Sisay, poet, playwright, author and chancellor of the University of Manchester was given recognition for being a role model and advocate for foster kids worldwide.

SEED also recognizes students with extraordinary academic achievement and community service.

According to its mission statement, the Society of Ethiopians Established in the Diaspora aims to empower the Ethiopian American Diaspora in the areas of academic excellence, professional development, and community service.
