ESAT News (May 2, 2017)

Reports reaching from Gondar say at least three soldiers were killed on Tuesday as their convoy came under attack in Addis Zemen near Metmiku Yohannes Monastery.

The convoy was heading from Gondar to Bahir Dar when it was ambushed by Patriotic Ginbot 7 forces that took responsibility for the attack.

A driver for one of the vehicles died on the scene while two others were pronounced dead on arrival at the Mekod military camp, according to ESAT’s source.

Today’s attack came after a spate of bomb attacks were carried out in Gondar and Bahir Dar in the last several weeks.

Meanwhile, about 25 residential quarters and a warehouse at a Chinese irrigation project was set ablaze on Tuesday.

In a second attack in a month, which was claimed to have been carried out by Patriotic Ginbot 7 forces, several machineries were also destroyed.

The irrigation project has not benefitted the local farmers, who are now faced with displacement due to the project, according to sources.
