An Ethiopian National Unity Convention held in Seattle over the weekend said in a resolution that a committee has been formed to work for the formation of a National Council that will make efforts to enhance the struggle for political change.

The two day convention, which draws Ethiopians from different walks of life, says the goal is to create a democratic Ethiopia, where human rights, equality, justice and peace prevail. “The goal is to transition Ethiopia to a democratic government system based on free and fair election,” according to a resolution issued at the end of the convection.

The convention also called on the Ethiopian regime to release all political prisoners without any precondition and also bring to justice the perpetrators of the killings in the Oromo and Amhara regions during protests in 2015 and 2016.

The convention hold the TPLF/EPRDF regime responsible for the ethnic divisions and conflicts in the country, which the ruling clique uses to prolong its stay in power.

Scholars, leaders of political, civic and religious organizations as well as elders took part at the convention.
