The Embassy of the United States in Addis Ababa on Thursday warned citizens of the dangers of travelling to Gondar where a series of grenade attack have been reported in recent weeks.

“The Embassy recommends U.S. citizens carefully consider whether travel to Gondar is necessary at this time.  All U.S. citizens residing in or traveling to Gondar should be aware of their surroundings at all times and re-assess their personal safety plans in light of these events,” the Embassy said in an alert to U.S. citizens.

In January, grenade attacks hit the Entasol Hotel in Gondar and the Grand Hotel in Bahir Dar, killing one person and injuring 19.

There have been four grenade attacks this month in Gondar, bringing the total in the Amhara region to eleven. A bomb was thrown at the Lodge du Chateau on Tuesday. A grenade attack also hit the Florida International Hotel and a resident of a regime official in Gondar, although no injuries have been reported.
