Ethiopia: Five soldiers killed in ambush in Gondar

ESAT News (April 21, 2017)

Four soldiers were killed when their convoy came under attack in Gondar. The truck, carrying soldiers to the city of Gondar, overturned when the driver was shot in an ambush. Five others have sustained injuries.

No party claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to ESAT’s sources, the convoy was travelling from the Musie Bamb Military Camp to the city of Gondar, where the residence of an official of the ruling TPLF, Ambaye Amare, had come under a grenade attack, seriously injuring the official.

The sources said the official might have been targeted because he was allegedly responsible for playing a key role in torturing and killing peaceful protesters and dissidents at various times in the last 26 years of the TPLF rule.

A member of the intelligence of the TPLF was also found dead at his residence in the city of Gondar. Residents of the city hold the agent responsible for the death of several youth in the anti-government protest last summer.

But the attacks have not been verified by independent sources.

In a related news, one soldier was killed and three others were injured in an attack at a Chinese irrigation project in Dembia, Gondar. Construction equipments were also destroyed in the attack by Patriotic Ginbot 7 forces.

The sources also said head of the Militia in Addis Zemen, Asefa Sitotaw and his deputy were also killed in an attack by PG7 forces.
