A viral video on the social media shows the scary moment when an Ethiopian maid is hanging from an apartment window and falling few seconds later while all along, the employer was filming on her cellphone.
The maid, who fell from the 7th floor, luckily survived with broken arms and other injuries.
The employer is now being investigated for failing to help a person in peril, which is punishable up to three months in jail, according to the country’s penal code.
The maid screams ”hold me, hold me,” before she fell on to the roof of an attached building.
The BBC quoted the Kuwait Society for Human Rights as saying that the employer had a duty of rescue.
The organisation noted that emirate’s penal code decreed that anyone who deliberately refrained from coming to the aid of a person in peril was liable to be sentenced to up to three months in prison, according to the report.
The Kuwait Times newspaper said it was believed the maid initially climbed out of the window because she was suicidal.
Every year, thousands of Ethiopian women go to the Gulf countries to work as maids, fleeing economic hardship in their country despite double digit growth rhetoric by a tyrannical regime.
