Tensions remain high in the Ethiopian northerly cities of Gondar and Bahir Dar ahead of the Epiphany celebrations on Wednesday. Reports indicate the regime has deployed a large number of troops in the cities where anti-government sentiment remains strong after killings and mass incarcerations.
Sources told ESAT that residents of Gondar and Bahir Dar have refused to celebrate Epiphany saying they are still mourning the death of hundreds of residents last summer.
At least 400 people were shot and killed during anti-government protests by residents of Gondar and Bahir Dar last summer.
There were grenade attacks at two hotels in Bahir Dar and Gondar a week ago that claimed the life of one person and injured 18 others. No groups claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Meanwhile, police warns of possible attacks during the celebrations of the Epiphany.
Sources say there is heavy presence of the army and security in Bahir Dar and Gondar.
