Ethiopia: Reports of fire at a local administrative office in Gondar town

ESAT News (January 11, 2017)

Witnesses say an office building for the Lideta sub-city administration had caught fire Wednesday night.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be known at the time of this report as the fire was still blazing.

A resident of Gondar told ESAT there was a power outage in the town following the fire.

An explosion on Tuesday at a hotel in the town killed at least one person and injured 18 others.

Tuesday’s grenade attack was the second in a week in the Amhara region where anti-government sentiments run high.

A grenade explosion hit the Grand Hotel in Bahir Dar Wednesday night. No injuries were reported.

At least 400 people were killed in anti-government protests this past summer as security forces shot at peaceful protesters .
