A meeting of high level military commanders held last week in the eastern Ethiopian town of Jijiga passed a resolution to reinforce the military rule in Gondar, according to reliable security sources.

The meeting decided that Seraba, in north Gondar will be the training headquarters for the western command and that two regiments from the 13th and 32nd divisions will be deployed in north Gondar to beef up the military administration and crush any anti-government resistance.

The commanders agreed to establish a new division in Chilga with contributions of troops from other divisions and the addition of 400 new graduates from Bir Sheleko to be incorporated into the new division.

They have also arrived at a consensus to increase the salaries of the army to halt the increasing defections and dwindling morale.

Senior commanders of the army including the chief-of-staff Samora Yunis attended the secrete meeting, according to the sources.
