The TPLF-led regime is deploying troops in Gondar where there is strong opposition against its rule.

In an interview with ESAT, chairman of the Gondar Union said the regime has deployed its army to disarm the people. Abebe Nigatu told ESAT that there were confirmed reports that the regime was amassing its troops in Chilga and Wegera. He said  over 40 convoys have arrived in Gondar so far. Several attempts by the regime’s security to disarm the people in Gondar and Gojjam have not bear any fruits.

Nigat said operatives of the regime are also trying to divide and incite violence between the people of Kimant and the Amharas.

Meanwhile, Nigatu said the people of Gondar would not be celebrating Epiphany on Thursday. “Instead of staging celebrations, they will mourn the death of hundreds of people at the hands of security forces,” he said.

Priests who campaigned for the boycott have been detained, according to Nigatu.
