Ethiopia: Whereabouts of  prominent journalist known, family says

ESAT News (December 16, 2016)

The family of Temesgen Desalegn, a prominent journalist serving three year sentence, said they have finally found their son at the Zeway Federal Prison after ten days of searching.

For the last ten days, federal prison officers have been telling the family that Temesgen was not under the custody of the prisons.

His brother, Tariku Desalegn, said in a facebook post on Friday that the family was allowed to see the journalist for only three minutes but were not allowed to speak with him.

Tariku said the family wanted to know where their son was kept for ten days. “One of the officers told us that they just found him today,” Tariku writes.

Temesgen was watched by seven guards during the family visit, according to his brother.

Temesgen was limping and is suffering from gastritis, Tariku said.

Temesgen, a critic of the tyrannical government, served two of his three year sentence on trumped up defamation charges.
