Ethiopian authorities indefinitely cancelled the country’s premier league as well as the Addis Ababa City Cup soccer tournaments as tensions mount following the declaration of a state of emergency.

The Addis Ababa stadium has been the venue for venting grievances against the government for Addis’ diehard soccer fans while similar protests against the regime have been common in soccer stadiums across the nation.

The state of emergency declared last week prohibits demonstrations of any kind against the regime.

It is not clear how long the ban on soccer tournaments stay in effect but the panicked regime had put a ban on any social gatherings in the nation.
