Prof. Berhanu calls on all Ethiopians to join the people of Gondar in the fight against TPLF

ESAT News (July 14, 2016)

Chairman of the Patriotic Ginbot 7 Movement for Unity and Democracy, Prof. Berhanu Nega called on all Ethiopians to join the people of Gondar in the fight against TPLF to hasten its downfall.

Prof. Berhanu recalled that the demand by the people of north Gondar were peaceful and legitimate but the response by the brutal regime was lethal force to squash their rights.

He said members of PG7 were everywhere in the country and were part of the struggle against the tyrannical regime.

Several people are reportedly killed in the north Ethiopian town of Gondar on Wednesday as clashes between regime forces and residents of the town continued for the second day.

The fighting between regime forces and residents of the town began on Tuesday when armed TPLF forces tried to apprehend members of a committee that heads the demand by the people of north Gondar for the recognition of their identity as Amharas. The TPLF regime incorporated the vast fertile land of north Gondar and the people into Tigray 25 years ago against the will of the people.

Three members of the committee were confirmed killed by the regime forces on Wednesday igniting further unrest in the town where residents burnt businesses and buses affiliated to the regime.

Prof. Berhanu further called on members of the army, the police, militia, members of the EPRDF coalition as well as members the TPLF to stand on the side of the people instead of siding with the few corrupt members of the oligarchy.

“United We Stand, Divided We Fall,” the Professor used an old adage to hammer his point home.
