Cholera kills six in Addis Ababa

ESAT News (July 20, 2016)

Cholera outbreak is fast spreading in the capital Addis Ababa and so far six people have reportedly been dead from the diseases.

Aid agencies fear the ongoing rainy season that will run till the end of August could spread the disease further.

26 satellite clinics have been set up throughout the capital to combat the disease but people with symptoms of the infectious bug opt for the private clinics, further complicating the fight against the disease.

At least 2000 people have fallen victims to the bacterial infection as the city health bureau refused to alert the residents about the outbreak at the onset of the outbreak.

Health professionals say the serious shortage of potable water in the capital and the scarcity of water that is being rationed every few days has posed a serious hurdle in the fight against the disease that’s mainly contracted from infected water supplies.
