Over forty opposition party members detained in Arba Minch

ESAT News (July 12, 2016)

Forty four  farmers who are members of the opposition Andenet were detained by security forces for refusing to take fertilizers provided in loan by the government, a representative of the party told ESAT.

The farmers have been detained for 10 days without appearing in court. The detainees include an eighty year old man.

According to the representative, the farmers refused to take the fertilizers saying the authorities charge them double in previous payments. They said the fertilizer loan program was a rip off.

ESAT’s attempt to talk to the area police commander was not successful.
