Soldiers of the minority oligarchs in Ethiopia made two attempts to rob the Daga Estifanos Monastery on Lake Tana on Friday and Monday and a guard was killed while fighting back the robbers.
Sources told ESAT that the soldiers-turned-robbers of the regime came on five boats on Friday and told the guard that they were there for fishing. The robbers left after an altercation with the guard who informed them that there was no fishing activity in the vicinity of the Monastery.
According to ESAT’s stringer in the region, administrators of the Monastery called the Bahir Dar Boats Association for help when the robbers came back again on Monday on eight boats. The Association in turn informed authorities in Bahir Dar but no back up was sent to the Monastery. The guard was killed in the shootout.
It was not clear if the robbers manage to take any relics from the Monastery. Authorities have warned the administrator of the Monastery against speaking to the media about the incident.
