Security forces kill six as protest continues in Oromia

ESAT News (January 18, 2016)

Six people were killed yesterday in Meiso town in East Hararge as protest continues against land plans by the minority government that intends to widen city limits of the capital Addis Ababa to the surrounding farming communities. Yesterday’s killing brings the death toll to over 150.

Protest continued today in Chengi town and security forces have arrested a number of people. Classes have not yet resumed at the various universities in the Oromia region and students are demanding the release of people arrested by the regime and also demanding that security forces stop their brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters.

The regional administration said calm has prevailed in all parts of the Oromia region. Sources however told ESAT that protest is still continuing at Ambo University and in West Wellega.
