Sources close to the Ethiopian government security confided to ESAT that the government, in an attempt to divert the ongoing antigovernment protest in the country, is scheming to incite ethnic violence.
The sources said the targets of the orchestrated attack by the regime’s operatives would be the Amharas and other ethnic groups who live in the Oromia region where there is a strong protest by the Oromos against government repression for the past two months. The aim, according to the sources, was to rally Amharas and other ethnic groups on the side of the government for fear of an attack by the Oromo ethnic group, thereby creating animosity among the different ethnic groups who otherwise lived in harmony for generations.
The sources said the regime has taken off air the Ethiopian Satellite Television and Radio (ESAT) and the Oromo Media Network (OMN), the only two sources of independent news for Ethiopians, in apparent attempt to create a news and information blackout and cover up government atrocities.
The sources said the recent grenade explosions at Jimma University and the Grand Anwar Mosque in Addis Ababa were part of the scheme by the government to carry out a series of explosions at higher institutions of learning and public gatherings.
