A Kenyan court sentenced 27 Ethiopian immigrants to prison

A court in Kenya sentenced 27 Ethiopian immigrants and their traffickers to 9 months in prison or 15,000 Kenyan Shillings, according to the Star newspaper.

The Ethiopians, whom Kenyan police say have entered the country illegally were on their way to South Africa in search of better economic opportunities. The court dropped charges to three of the immigrants who are children between the ages of 13 and 15, and ordered for their immediate deportation to Ethiopia.

The court also ordered for the immigrants to be deported to Ethiopia upon completion of their sentences.

Ethiopian youth leave their country in thousands every month to escape economic and political repression and in search of better opportunities in other countries.
