ESAT News (January 13, 2016)

A government sponsored study showed at least 150 Ethiopians leave their country every day in search of economic opportunities in other countries.

The majority of the migrants were youngsters and 94% of them were women, according to the study conducted by a government committee set up to thwart illegal immigration.

The study mentioned absence of job opportunities and human traffickers as the cause of the migration. It however failed to mention the root causes of the ever increasing migration of young Ethiopians, which many times involve a perilous journey over the desert and sea, to go to Europe and the Gulf States.

The study did not mention the deep rooted corruption, nepotism, political persecution and crippling education policy that force the youth, the productive section of the Ethiopian society,to leave the country.
