Al-Shabaab attacks Ethiopian and African Union troops

ESAT News (May 16, 2016)

Somali media quoting residents in Beledweyne city reported that Al-Shabaab fighters had attacked Ethiopian, Somali as well as African Union troops near that city.

The attack at a joint base in Halgan was reported to be a massive one and residents fear high number of causalities. The base had come under fire from all directions as the militants engage the coalition in a surprise attack.

Ethiopian troops are in Somalia fighting a proxy war on terrorism and have been paying huge price but Ethiopian government stayed mum about the number of deaths since its soldiers first set their boot in 2006.

It was not clear how many soldiers were killed on both sides in Monday’s attack.
