Addis Ababa: Fire guts down businesses, residences

Three fire incidents in 24 hours period over have gutted down businesses and residential quarters in Addis Ababa causing property damages worth about 400,000 dollars, according to the city’s fire department.

Four businesses were blazed behind the old post office and property worth 25,000 has been destroyed, city fire department told local media.

Eight houses went up in flames in an area locally known as Habtegiorgis Bridge. The fire caused considerable damages to property but no casualty is reported on residents.

Another fire on businesses owned by the Medhanialem Church, near the premises of the church, destroyed two shops.

There were no casualties from all the fire incidents except a minor injury to one person, according to police, that also advise residents to be extra vigilant in this dry and windy weather in the capital.
