A Hand grenade thrown at a hotel, explosion kills a child

A hand grenade was thrown at a hotel in Debre Zeit, a.k.a. Bishoftu town few miles outside Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, killing a child and injuring the parents, according to eyewitnesses and local media reports.

The unidentified individual threw the bomb at the Awash Hotel and the explosion killed a three year old child. There was a visible tight security in Bishoftu following the explosion, according to the reports.

A day early, on Wednesday, there was reports of shooting at Lebena Dengel School, although no casualties were reported.

No party claimed responsibility for the explosion and the school shooting.

In the last few months alone, there have been a number of explosions at colleges in the Oromia region and at the Grand Anwar Mosque in Addis Ababa. The governments has been mum about these incidents.

The Ethiopian government has a record of employing dirty tricks of throwing grenades at public gatherings and blame opposition political groups and neighboring Eritrea, in a futile scheme to get them labeled terrorists, according to the US diplomatic cables as reported in the WikiLeaks files.
