University students in Woldia Town arrested

In connection with nationwide peaceful protests of Ethiopian Muslims, ten Muslim students of WoldiaUniversityin North Wollo, Amhara Region, Ethiopia, have been arrested last Friday, sources in the Town told ESAT.

 Similarly, a high school English language teacher known as Abdela and another procurement officer in a different school, Medersa, have been detained today. According to some people in the area, police is also preparing to arrest more students.  The students are now reportedly locked in Woldia Prison.

In an attempt to quell the Muslim protests, the Ethiopian government has been on an arrest spree of those suspected of organizing and leading the protests since last year. ESAT’s effort to talk to the Zonal officials for comments was unsuccessful.
