Muslim leaders hearing adjourned

Oct. 26 (ESAT News) Jailed Muslim leaders appeared before the Lideta Federal First Instance court yesterday but the hearing was adjourned without any proceedings. Our sources in Addis say the accused were unusually taken to the Lideta court for the hearing instead of the Arada First Instance Court that was normally hearing the cases against them.

The jailed committee of Muslim leaders were trying to resolve the crisis created due to the interference of the regime in the affairs of Muslims linked with the imposition of the Al Ahbash sect and the selection of leaders of the Islamic Supreme Council. It was hoped that they would be released for the Eid celebration.

Tension between Ethiopian Muslims and the regime is high after four Muslims were killed and many were rounded up by security forces in Gerba. The Eid celebration is expected to be volatile as hundreds of thousands of angry Muslims will converge in public place for prayers.
