Oct. 23 (ESAT News) The Federal Police have reportedly executed four Muslim activists in Garba Kebele, Wollo, yesterday. Two of the victims were arrested and executed within hours while two more were shot and killed by members of the federal police at a protest rally.
A number of young Muslim activists are also being rounded up and detained. A few activists called ESAT and reported that members of the federal police were conducting a house-to-house search in the area. The number of people detained so far is unknown. But it was revealed by activists that members of the federal police has 106 people on their list.
According to ESAT sources, the detainees included Ismael Abdu Awol, Ousman Ahmed, Sheh Abdu, Ahmed Dali, Salim Kelena and Abdo Ahmed were among residents of the locality that have been arrested. The security forces reportedly got the assistance of some members of Al Ahbash sect, a controversial Islamic faith group allegedly being organized by the regime to divide Ethiopian Muslims and impose its own version of Islam.
After the incident escalated the security forces gathered residents and demanded that they expose the instigators of the protest. But during the low-turnout meeting residents of the locality were reluctant to be accessories to killings and unlawful detentions of peaceful protesters.
Despite ESAT’s repeated effort to get the views of government officials on the turmoil, they were not willing to speak to ESAT or give any information on the violent incident.
