Oct. 4 (ESAT) Ethiopian government officials have started soliciting money from businesses and individuals for a mysterious “memorial” project for the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.
Businesses and organizations that contribute above the requested amount are being given special acknowledgement, it was learnt. Meles Zenawi’s successor Hailmeriam Desalgn had promised at his funeral services that a memorial museum, which will also house his remains, would be built for the deceased ruler.
While it was not disclosed whether the donation being solicited would be allocated to build the museum, reports indicate that the government is stressed with shortage of money to execute projects.
IMF has recently warned that the Ethiopian government should halt the construction of the Grand Millennium Dam and other ambitious infrastructural investments that are likely to drain resources and further aggravate economic hardships and crisis.
